Eheim’s are high quality filters that don’t break down every other day. Money well spent. The only drawback is that the instructions are very difficult to follow. Actually they do not tell you step by step how to hook the filter up. I found the following website that has a step by step video that will help. I wasn’t impressed with that filter. The eheim can’t be beat. It’s really quiet. I can’t even hear it running. The only way to inform it’s running is to watch the water movement. It has only been on the tank a week but I can already tell a difference. I am planning on buying a second one.

This is the best filter system we have had for our 80 gal. aquarium. It costs more than others, but absolutely worth it – really quiet and keeps water looking clear.

The Eheim 2217 canister filter is a excellent workhorse. It offers mechanical, biological, and chemical filtration in a compact and nearly silent package. Like all external canister filters, it is greatest if you have an enclosed cabinet in your tank stand where it could be kept out of sight. The instruction manual leaves a little to be desired. The illustrations are little and it’s not always obvious which image goes which which instruction.
